Overview

Long before 1857.
Long before Mangal Pandey.
India’s first rebellion against British rule had already begun—in the dense forests of Rajmahal.

This is the forgotten story of Tilka Manjhi, a tribal warrior who dared to challenge the British East India Company almost 100 years before the Revolt of 1857.

After the Battle of Buxar (1764), the British imposed ruthless taxes, laws, and land grabs on innocent tribal communities. Forests were looted. Villages starved. Justice was replaced by colonial “law.”
And from this injustice rose a man the British feared.
