Rendo Majhi was a fearless tribal leader from Kalahandi, Odisha, who led the Kandha tribal revolt against the British in 1853. When the British imposed unjust taxes on the Kandha people—who had lived tax-free under their local king—Majhi rose in defiance. His arrest and brutal treatment sparked a widespread rebellion, and in 1855, he was hanged by the British for daring to resist their rule.
